Who am I?

My name is Dr. Behrens. I am a board certified, actively practicing emergency medicine doctor based in New York and the creator of this website. During my career, I have worked in ERs across the country, from the heart of NYC to the rural mountain west. In all of these places, I’ve noticed patients experience many of the same frustrations. The healthcare system is hard to navigate and the advice available online is either confusing or incorrect. I built the Online Emergency Room as a way help patients understand what the emergency room can and cannot do for them. The advice here comes from a combination of specialty specific research, professional guidelines, and my own individual practice.
